Type 1 to Tesla Adapter — Charge Type 1 EVs at Tesla Destination Chargers

The Type 1 to Tesla adapter lets Type 1 (SAE J1772) electric vehicles charge at Tesla Destination Chargers in Australia — opening up Tesla's hotel, shopping centre and restaurant charging network to Nissan Leaf, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and all other Type 1 EVs. Plug-and-play design, no app or Tesla account needed.

Compatible with Nissan Leaf (all generations), Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV, Holden Volt, and any other vehicle with a Type 1 (SAE J1772) charge port. Connects to Tesla Gen 2 Wall Connector Destination Charger outlets, found at thousands of hotels, shopping centres, restaurants and businesses across Australia. The adapter handles your vehicle's full AC charging speed — limited by your car's onboard charger, not the adapter.

The -30°C to +50°C operating range covers all Australian climate conditions. Compact and lightweight — leaves permanently in your charging bag without adding bulk. No configuration, pairing, or Tesla account required: simply plug in and charging begins. For AC Mode 2/Mode 3 charging only — not for use with Tesla Superchargers.

Need to charge at Australia's public Type 2 stations instead? Most Type 1 EV owners use the Type 1 to Type 2 adapter. Browse the full EV charger adapter range at Tes Accessories.

Q: What is a Type 1 to Tesla adapter and what does it do?

A: This adapter lets Type 1 (SAE J1772) electric vehicles — such as the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV — charge at Tesla Destination Chargers (Gen 2 Wall Connectors). Tesla has installed thousands of Destination Chargers at hotels, shopping centres, and restaurants across Australia. Without this adapter, those chargers are inaccessible to non-Tesla Type 1 EVs.

Q: Will this adapter slow down my Nissan Leaf's charging speed?

A: No. Charging speed is set by your vehicle's onboard charger and the Destination Charger's output — not the adapter. The Nissan Leaf charges at up to 6.6kW AC; this adapter is rated well above that, so it introduces no bottleneck.

Q: Can I use this adapter at a Tesla Supercharger?

A: No. This adapter is for Tesla Destination Chargers (Gen 2 Wall Connectors at hotels and businesses) only. Tesla Superchargers use the NACS connector and are designed exclusively for Tesla vehicles.

Q: Do I need a Tesla account or app to use this adapter?

A: No. The adapter is fully plug-and-play. Simply insert the Tesla side into the Destination Charger outlet and the J1772 side into your vehicle — charging starts automatically, no Tesla account or smartphone required.
