Type 2 EV Charger Extension Cable — 22kW, 32A, 5 Metres

The Type 2 EV Charger Extension Cable 22kW solves Australia's most common charging frustration — the station cable is 2 metres too short. Add 5 metres of reach to any public or home Type 2 charging point, rated to 22kW (32A three-phase) so charging speed is never compromised. CE and TÜV certified to the same safety standard as your primary cable.

This extension cable is compatible with Tesla Model 3 (all variants, 2019–present) and Tesla Model Y (all variants, 2021–present including Juniper 2025+) when used with a Type 2 to NACS adapter at the vehicle end. Non-Tesla EVs with native Type 2 ports — including BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal, Polestar 2, MG ZS EV, Hyundai IONIQ 6, and Kia EV6 — plug in directly. Works at any AC Type 2 station across Australia.

The female connector inserts into the station's Type 2 cable and the male connector goes into your vehicle (or adapter). Built to the same 22kW, IP55, TPE standard as the primary cable — so caravan parks, hotel undercover carparks, shopping centre chargers with awkward placement, and street charging bays are all covered. Not suitable for DC fast charging (CCS/CHAdeMO).

Use it with your primary 22kW Type 2 charging cable, or see the 7kW extension cord for single-phase setups. Browse the full Tesla charging cable range at Tes Accessories.

  • Connector type: IEC 62196-2 Type 2 female inlet → IEC 62196-2 Type 2 male connector (extension)
  • Maximum power: 22kW (three-phase, 32A per phase)
  • Maximum current: 32A AC
  • Cable length: 5 metres
  • Weather rating: IP55 (dust protected, water-jet resistant)
  • Cable jacket: TPE (flexible, UV-resistant)
  • Certifications: CE and TÜV certified
  • Not suitable for DC fast charging (CCS2/CHAdeMO)
  • Adds 5 metres of reach between any Type 2 charging station and your vehicle — eliminates the 'cable too short' problem at caravan parks, hotel carparks, and street chargers
  • Female end inserts into the station's Type 2 cable; male end connects to your EV or Type 2 adapter
  • Full 22kW, 32A capacity maintained across 5 metres — no power loss, no speed reduction
  • CE and TÜV certified to the same safety standard as primary charging cables
  • IP55 weatherproof for outdoor use at Australian caravan parks, shopping centres, and street bays in all weather
  • TPE jacket remains flexible in cold mornings and resists UV degradation in Australian summers
  • Purpose-built for EV charging loads — never use a standard household extension lead for EV charging
  • Tesla Model 3 (all variants, 2019–present) — via Type 2 to NACS adapter at the vehicle end
  • Tesla Model Y (all variants, 2021–present including Juniper 2025+) — via Type 2 to NACS adapter
  • BYD Atto 3, BYD Seal, BYD Dolphin — Type 2 inlet, direct connection

  • MG ZS EV, MG4 — Type 2 inlet, direct connection
  • Compatible with all Australian public Type 2 AC charging stations — Chargefox, Evie Networks, NRMA EV, ChargePoint, caravan parks, hotel chargers

Q: Is it safe to use an extension cable for EV charging?

A: Yes — a purpose-built Type 2 EV charging extension cable is completely safe. These are not domestic extension leads. They are rated to 22kW (32A) with IP55 weatherproofing, maintain full conductor integrity at EV charging loads, and use certified IEC 62196-2 connectors. Never use a standard household extension cord for EV charging.

Q: Will an EV charging extension cable reduce my charging speed?

A: No. This cable uses adequately sized conductors for 32A across 5 metres — voltage drop is within the acceptable tolerance for IEC 62196-2 certification. CE and TÜV certification confirms full current capacity is maintained. Speed reduction only occurs with undersized, uncertified cables.

Q: Can I use this extension cable at Australian caravan parks?

A: Yes. Most caravan parks with EV charging use Type 2 AC stations. This cable extends the reach by 5 metres to accommodate varied parking positions. IP55 weatherproofing handles outdoor conditions. At single-phase 7kW, overnight charging adds 200–300 km of range to most EVs.

Q: Can I use this to charge a Tesla Model Y when the station cable is too short?

A: Yes. Plug the female end into the station's Type 2 cable, then connect the male end to your Type 2 to NACS adapter, then into your Tesla Model Y. The extension carries the full charge signal with no speed or safety compromise.
